Every Tuesday for the rest of the season, I’ll be posting 3 sets of power rankings: my college hoops top 10, my top 10 NBA teams, and a ranking of something unrelated.
Let’s do it!
College Hoops
Also Considered: Iowa State, Oklahoma, Baylor, Northern Iowa, Wichita State, North Carolina
10. (empty)
9. Utah
8. Kansas
7. Arizona
6. Gonzaga
5. Duke
4. Villanova
3. Wisconsin
2. Virginia
1. Kentucky
It just makes more sense to not even name a tenth team. There’s such a noticeable drop-off between Utah and whoever would be 10th, let’s just leave it open.
NBA
Also Considered: Toronto, New Orleans
10. Dallas
9. Oklahoma City
8. LA Clippers
7. Cleveland
6. San Antonio
5. Portland
4. Houston
3. Memphis
2. Atlanta
1. Golden State
Houston slides up the board and injury-riddled Chicago drops off the considered list.
Best Non-Game Sporting Events
Not Considered: The ESPYs
Also Considered: College Football National Signing Day, Olympic Opening Ceremonies, World Cup Draw, Home Run Derby, NFL Scouting Combine, “One Shining Moment”, Everything That Happens In The Hour Before The Kentucky Derby
10. Every Episode of College Gameday (Football Only)
Every single week, the Gameday guys bring a great show. I’m interested to see how different things are without Chris Fowler next year.
On another note, the basketball version of this show is useless and needs to be re-tooled or sent out to pasture.
9. Heisman Trophy Presentation
Textbook television production stretches out one exciting moment into a slog of an hour.
8. MLB Trade Deadline
HOT STOVE! Less exciting than it could be, since every trade is player for prospects.
7. Super Bowl Halftime Show
No comment.
6. NBA All-Star Saturday Night
A fun event that could be a lot more fun.
5. NBA Trade Deadline
This year’s craziness took this event to a whole new level.
4. NBA Draft Lottery
Actual suspense combined with awkward team representatives makes for great TV.
3. NFL Draft
I preferred Saturday afternoon, but it’s still a great watch. 15 minutes per pick is brutal.
2. Selection Sunday
I can’t use words to explain how excited I get when Gumbel’s big goofy mug comes on screen at 6 pm on Selection Sunday.
1. NBA Draft
I enjoy the NBA Draft more than any NBA game. There’s just something about it that is so exciting, so entertaining, and so endlessly fun.
Now, I’m sure you all agree with all of this, so I can’t imagine any reason to comment on this post.
